Just for the record... I think it's absolutely rediculous that we keep on changing the time we have the meetings just because 1 or 2 people can't make it... Tim Sailer The other reason is that there are no open computer labs on Tuesday night... next time we'll have to meet in a classroom or something. - Tom R Yes, I agree in principle. In this case, I guess that since both the Prez & VP of the group have a conflict, it makes it a little worse. I propose we tackle this at the next meeting. What I believe is proper (since we don't have a constitution) is for someone to bring up a motion to allow discussion of what will become the de facto solution for solving this problem longterm. Once the motion is seconded, then all ideas will be collected and voted on. For example, I might propose that if 2/3 of the eligible members (read on below) move to change a meeting date at any time, then it is allowed to be put up to a vote of some kind. Someone else might propose that it takes only 2 persons to force a meeting change, and only the people present at the meeting get to vote on the meeting date change (silly example, but you see my point). Once all these crazy ideas of allowing change/how to vote on change are collected, we figure a way to vote on those ideas, and the winning idea becomes our way. Again, having a constitution would have made this easy... The problem with this, including the resolution of the problem itself, is: who gets to vote on it? Only people who are present? All active members? What is an active member? We passed around a signup sheet a couple of times (I have those in the Secretary's files :-) ) but that doesn't help us now. Anyway, this should make a lively topic for discussion on Tuesday, that's for sure! :-) I think the REAL solution is to meet every night of the week. We're all Linux enthusiasts anyway, so we might as well just get together all the time. This way, everyone can make at least one meeting every so often. :-} Matt -- Matt Surico Anyone volenteerng to draw up a rough draft. I think the LILUG list and Tuesdays meeting combined is a pretty good indicator of active members. We shoud take two things in consideration for those on the list who can't make it on Tuesday, do they want the meeting moved, and to when. They should be considered as absentee votes. Anybody who objects reply to this email ;) When I wrote the original email, after a discussion with Tom about conficts, I had intended to see if this would make major headaches for anyone. Well apparently it does. I agree with Tim Sailor that we shouldn't move the meeting if at all possible. Perhaps I can get someone to cover those three hours for me once a month for the next four months. I wanted to avoid that because it will make hassle at work but it may be possible. A few more things to consider... Even if I can get coverage, we should take a unoffical tally anyway. Not that we will move the meeting day but perhaps we could get some perspective on what's best for everyone. Some people may have rearanged their schedules to make it to the meetings on the second Tuesday. Someone had mentioned having the meetings in the computer rooms as a factor, it dosn't matter when we schedule LILUG unless it is Friday, as we will have to meet in a normal classroom this semester. Tom does have a class scheduled (till 8:45) through half of the meetings being VP he should also have a say. He will need to cover if say I get run over by a truck and can't make it that month (things like that do happen to me occasionally 8)) Matthew Newhall
