LILUG is one of the best places to meet people and make connections in the tech industry in Long Island. Growing faster than Linux itself meeting attendance is complemented by a myriad of high-level computer technicians and newcomers alike.
These statistics are valid as of February 2000.
For our third regular meeting, February 2, 1999, Tim Sailer of Brookhaven National Labs spoke about TCP Wrappers in Linux.
Sign in Attendance 16
For our 15th regular meeting, February 8, 2000, Tim Sailer (pure coincidence) spoke on Firewalls.
Sign Attendance 41 (about 10 more people present didn't sign)
Using the number of people who signed in, this represents a 256% increase over a year in membership. This is a higher growth rate than Linux itself.
The LILUG mailing list, had 63 members signed up. Traffic usually consists of Linux questions of all levels and announcements.
Linux has been doubling it's user base since it's creation in 1991. Linux more than doubled it's market share from 1998 to 1999, at a growth rate of 212%.
